Today we celebrate the anniversary of the first settlers into Maryland! According to Maryland.gov they reached Virginia on February 27th, gathered more supplies, and navigated Chesapeake Bay north to the mouth of the Potomac by March 3rd. On March 25th, 1634 about 140 settlers disembarked from the Ark and the Dove- two small sailing ships. They set foot on what is now St. Mary’s County.
On March 25th the settlers enjoyed of day of thanksgiving for their safe arrival, and we continue to celebrate their success as Maryland Day!
